Welcome! My name is Arthur Gillespie, and I am a certified Rolfer™ and Rolf Movement® practitioner from the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute where my studies have taken me to Boulder, CO and Barra do Sahy, Sao Paulo (Brasil).

My interest in Rolfing® developed in 2003 when I moved to San Diego to learn resistance stretching from Bob Cooley (founder of Meridian Stretching) and his students, Christopher Maher and Nic Bartolotta. I saw first hand how removing dense fascial adhesions and scar tissue increased range of motion and muscle elasticity and improved circulation, lymphatic flow and elasticity.

It was from this amazing experience that I learned about fascia and its importance to graceful movement, posture and being. My stay in San Diego awakened my desire to pursue a career in health and wellness.

When I first received Rolfing, I experienced a dramatic release of tension in my lower back, right shoulder and ribcage. My joints felt lubricated, and my movement felt fluid. I took longer strides, hit more aces and was able to breathe easier. I strive to have grace and effortless movement in my daily life, whether it be dance, yoga, tennis, running, swimming or walking.

I am fascinated with body patterns that are created from birth, trauma/stress and our work environment. I use bodywork, movement and dialogue to create change and increase awareness of what it feels like to be in a new body that moves and experiences the world from a different point of view – a view where the body is not fighting gravity but in alignment with gravity.

My education and work experience as a civil engineer allows me to see the body not only as a three dimensional structure but as a piece of art. I use mild, direct pressure as well as the client’s movement to melt, mold, unwind, untwist, hydrate and release facial holdings to correct internal misalignments which allows the body to find health through the re-establishment of balance. Thus, Rolfing improves postural balance and functional ease by aligning and integrating the body in relationship to gravity.
